Nice bull

Took this guy's pic the day we were in Yellowstone park near Gardner Montana. Not a great picture as these point and shoot cameras don't do wildlife pictures justice. Was in the 90's here in St. George utah area today, with the a/c in the trailer it was very comfortable. Actually supposed to rain here Mon-Tue....we'll take it!!

Fremont lake with Seneca lake in foreground

Guy I met on the trail took this photo and sent it to me, he has lots of pretty pics of the windriver range east of Pinedale. I'll post some in the next days and weeks. For my non-Wyoming friends this is Fremont peak taken near dusk.

Soda lake

Clear day at soda lake about mid August. Sure has been clear in the mountains this year, not as many wildfires I guess.
Almost hate to leave Wed. with the nice weather we're having here, oh well, long range forecast says it's supposed to storm about Oct. 4th. I did maint. on the air conditioner today getting ready for near 100 degree temps. in Hurricane Ut., hopefully that will be short lived

Chimney rock on chimney butte

Spent many days hunting up in this country southeast of Boulder with friends and family. Sky in photo is washed out as It was mid morning.

Fremont Butte in the distance

Climbed up Chimney butte into my old hunting digs this morning. I'm hunting with a camera this year. I bugled up a bull elk to within about 1/8 mile but he never came out of the timber. That north trail is just as steep as it's ever been... That's Fremont Butte off in the distance, fall colors were spectacular

Lake seen from photographers point

I'm trying to figure out which lake that is in the lower left corner of this pic. I'm sure Judi Meyer will know and post it's name here. It seems too far south to be Suicide lake?????? Took the pic the other day from photographers point...wish I had raised the camera just a touch to get the tops of the peaks in, I took the old Mavica that day and it's hard to see what you're shooting in daylight..

Harrower peak and elephant head

One of those is Harrower peak and the rounded on on the right is elephant head. Over the years we've had several short term searches around elephant head, people get separated from their hiking parties and become disoriented in that area for some reason, kinda like the "wind river triangle" I guess.. Took this photo from photographers point the other day

Countdown to launch

What a fast moving summer... We're 9 days from launch to Hurricane Utah. Today is check wheel bearings day and put fresh grease in them, also, check air pressure in all tires. 10 day weather forecast looks good except for the 29th when we're supposed to launch. We'll just work around that!!

Nice country

I never get tired of that walk into photographers point, it's certainly good excersize. That sign has been up there for many many years. At one time the forest service guys were going to take all the signs down for some unknown reason.

Yellowstone

Was a fun trip up to Yellowstone and points north the last couple days. Yikes, I just noticed that I didn't crop the guy's head out in the lower right hand corner.... Was going to split wood with the power wood splitter tomorrow for mother in law but all the splitters are rented out tomorrow...I did rent one for the 25th.

Last day in Yellowstone

Didn't bring my "download" cord for my camera so no new pics yet. Took a nice ride up to Gardner Montana today then back to Old Faithful inn via the loops. Lots of folks around still, saw a big wolf eating on a carcass of some kind. My Verizon card works well up here, No TV though, I cheated and streamed a couple of TV programs off of hulu.com

Off to run the roads to Yellowstone park today. Other than a couple of trips to Rock Springs and Jackson this is the first "getaway" we've had.

2nd load of the day

Pulling out of woodcutting area with load number 5 for the year, 2nd load of the day. Two loads a day kind of drain the protein out of your system. Show here is Tim and Debi (in the truck) we all nodded off in our chairs that evening.

Zion park area

Attended the yearly American legion "get together dinner" at Half moon lake last evening. Sat with Joel and Susan Bousman and hashed over old times. Joel was one year behind me in school. I'd forgotten how pretty that area is near Zion park, this is part of Kolob terrace a bit north and west of Zion park proper. Bet it's not 24 degrees f. there like it is here this morning!!

Florida winter 05 spring 06

Wow, doesn't seem like 5 years ago we were getting ready to launch on our first winter out in the RV. Went to Texas and Florida that year. Took pic of these guys around Silver springs Florida that winter. If they weren't so damned ugly they'd be cute...

Silver lake area

An older aerial photo of Silver lake area. Not sure if I've posted this one or not, dug out some old cd's with pics... Look at that nasty snow squall off to the northeast of the airplane. "shudder"

"Now that's a block of wood"

That was one huge tree we sawed down yesterday, took two cuts at the base of the tree to "fall" it. It was nice and dry though, very easy to split......easy for me to say, when it gets split I'll be in Arizona..

Starting the checklist

Time to check the wheel bearings and air up the tires for winter travel south. I have one more day of work tomorrow then haul firewood for our son and mother in law. Our target date for departure to Hurricane Utah is on or about Sept 29th (that varies with weather). Ive enjoyed working for the Sheriff's office this summer, if the critics only knew what those guys have to put up with they wouldn't be so critical. I call a lot of the "critics" C.A.V.E. people (citizens against virtually everything), these fine men and women of the Sublette County Sheriff's office just trudge ahead and do their job despite the C.A.V.E. people. I look forward to woking with them again next summer.
