Quartzsite Arizona

Our cousin from Colorado Springs should be here next week. We're planning a short trip over to Quartzsite. For those familiar with that area it's one big flea market. This pic was taken in Quartzsite a couple of years ago when we were camping there. Thousands of rv'ers show up there in January for "get togethers" and look at all the goodies for sale. Our cousins have a motorhome and stay near here for a few weeks in the winter time. When we go to Quartzsite normally we park in a big circle out on BLM land and enjoy the area. This year we may be able to get into some RV spaces with full hookups. It's about 125 miles west of here.

Nice and warm here again today (73), we went to a super good barb-q place. The ribs were really good. Tomorrow??? Football and ???

Organ stop Pizza

There's this cool little place in Mesa Az called Organ stop pizza. You order up a pizza and listen to a guy play the organ, not just any organ, apparently this is one of the biggest organs in the world (A Wurtlitzer for you music experts), they built the 2 story building around the organ pipes. This fellow shown in the picture was a pretty good organist.

70 degrees here today, gee, I sure miss going out in the morning when it's -20 and warming the car up. Tomorrow we're going to some really good bar-b-q joint in Mesa. I'm getting my last decent meal for a while, I've put some pounds on during the Christmas season so got to shed about 15 of them. I've noticed the older you get the harder it is to get those pounds off.

Deb: The pizza place was really neat. The music was good and the food was pretty good also. Heard today that Denver fired their football coach, I may have to switch teams....I am what is called a "fair weather fan".

Walmart run

Walmart run today, had to get prescriptions and something for dinner. Took a tour over towards Mesa, tried to find the new Phoenix light rail parking area. The new light rail just opened and has free rides till Jan 1st, after that it's $2.50 for an all day pass.

Nice warm day, almost 70.

McDougall gap

Debi and I took a run over McDougall gap last August. Sure is a scenic little drive from Pinedale westbound over there and on to Alpine Wyoming.

Sunny and nice in Az today, supposed to hit 70 later this week. Watched football today, tomorrow we are going to drive around the area some (Getting short of pictures to post)

Lynchburg Tennessee

The folks at Jack Daniels distillery took this pic of our tour group last year when we were in Tennessee. Had a great time touring the distillery and enjoying the Nashville area. This pic was taken about mid November 2007

Debi: Today was Shelly's birthday and I hope she had a good one. It was a little cool here today, but should be warming up by the end of the week. 68 degrees sounds a lot better than zero. We braved the crowds and went to Wal Mart, it really was not bad except for the return line-horrible.

Brother Larry

My brother Larry was in Pinedale in July to visit family and "rope" in Jackson at the rodeo. The kid is my cousin Carol Malott's grandson from Colorado Springs Co. My brother and his family live to rope. They do pretty good at it too, he's had some pretty good paydays over the years. Can't remember the horses' name....

Clear and cool here in Apache Junction Az today. frost warnings in the area. These folks down here freak out when the temperature hits 30 above. To hear the weather guys speak you'd think that an ice age is coming.

"Ewwwwwww"

This is a picture of a bad annode (that's a thingie that goes in an RV's hot water heater to attract minerals). this one has been in some really hard water. The desert southwest is notorious for hard water. I pulled this one out, flushed hot water heater out with fresh water and put a new one in. Hopefully I'll check the new one a bit sooner.

Note from Debi: Merry Christmas. We had a very good dinner at the club house today. There are a lot of good cooks and of course we ate too much. It is rainy and cool but nothing like Pinedale. Talked to the kids and Mom and everyone had a good Christmas.

Arizona Opry

Went to Arizona Opry Christmas show last evening (Debi finally got over her food poisining). Had a good meal and the entertainment was spectacular. These folks aren't just a bunch of rank ametures, they're the real deal. Shown are just a few of the horns that the music director (George Staerkel) plays. This guy has a masters degree in music and can play literally anything. Great time. Sorry about the picture being fuzzy, I don't have this "pics" in the night thing nailed down yet.

Ipod touch

Got to love these new gadgets, this one has some neat games, holds lots of photos, holds lots of music and surfs the web when you're in wireless range.

Wow, raining here, not so sure my friends and relatives up north are getting off so easy.

Sheriff's possee

Had some volunteer Sheriff's possee folks training their animals in Walmart Parking lot, Apache junction. Getting their horses used to being around people. Back in the mid 90's we had a bunch of deputies trained up with horses for parades, rendezvous patrols etc. Was kind of fun. I had a quarterhorse at that time and had him trained up. Sure miss that old horse.

Day we left Pinedale

Debi and son Tim having a cup of coffee just before we left Pinedale Oct. 9th. That's Tim's girlfriend's Pomeranian sitting on the couch. Her name is Foxy. Foxy comes over a lot in the summer when we're in Pinedale.

Warmer here today, about 60. Debi's on the mend, we went out and got lunch at a Village Inn, I think that's the first real meal she's had in over a week since she got the food poisining (or whatever it was). We cancelled our tickets to the Opry last evening but they were gracious enough to replace the tickets for Monday night. If you're ever in the East Valley of Phoenix in Apache junction, Barleens Opry is a "must see".

Almost frost

Almost had frost on the window this morning. Thermometer said 32 degrees F. Supposed to warm up today...

Debi's still fighting the food poisining thing, although doing some better. If she's up to it tonight we have tickets to a Christmas program at the local "opry".

Road to Wolf Lake

This old tree has probably been struck by lightning many times over the years. It's on a ridge-top coming down the road to Wolf Lake 20 some miles southeast of Pinedale. The theme of this blog is RV travels, this has absolutely nothing to do with RVing but it's cool picture.

Had more rain last night. One of our neighbors' has 3 slide outs on his motorhome. The rear one was leaking. That's a mess when the slideouts leak. He took it to the repair shop today to get it fixed. It is still under warranty.

Old cabin at Cottonwood lake

This is a picture of an old fallen down cabin on the east shore of Cottonwood Lake, 25 miles or so southeast of Pinedale Wyoming. I'm really not sure what purpose the cabin served? I looked for hidden treasures but found none. August 08

I'm going to have to come up with some fresh pictures, or show the old ones over... Rainy here today, got nearly an inch of precip the last 24 hours. More to come tonight so they say.

Helen the wood-hauler

Many of you know my mom (she's 102), she goes with me each fall to haul wood out of Springcreek park north of town. She used to throw the blocks of wood around but nowdays she just picks flowers and enjoys the outdoors. Her key to longevity?? Be positive and eat garlic.

Debi's food poisning is much better today. Got some rain and clouds here in Apache junction Az today, that pales in comparison to the snow and below zero temps. at home in Pinedale.

Cottonwood lake

Took this shot of Cottonwood lake in August. It's just over the hill to the west of Wolf Lake. Nice country up there. For my family members who tune in here and have no idea where that's at...welllll... It's roughly 25 miles south east of the town of Pinedale Wyo.

Debi's better today, took her to the Emergacare place and they said sure enough she probably had food poisining but that it seems to be getting better without having to take some meds. She was one sick puppy the last couple of days. Being the dumb man that I am, I baked a pizza in the over last night. Debi got a whiff of that and bout got sick again...Way to go Hank..

Florence Prisons

Took a run down towards Florence Az. a couple of days ago. This is a pic of one of the prisons there. I think they have like 3 prisons. Some of the baddest dudes around are housed here. We stayed at an RV park near here last year for a couple of weeks.

Debi got into some bad food (food poisining of some kind), she's been laid low for a couple of days. She seems some better this morning.

BAD TRUCK

This is the culprit that quit me yesterday on the Superstition freeway. I've grouonded Mr. Dodge today and will deprive him of fuel for a few days.

(This is a test post from Picasa)

Before and after

Bottom photo depicts damage caused when my trailer tail end scratched into a guy's truck a while back. Top photo shows it fixed. The guy called me and said the paint didn't match and he would re-shoot it. I'll let it dry for a couple of days and decide whether I want to fool with it or not. Photos don't show much but but looking at it seems very close???? It's a royal pain in the posterior to spool up, trailer it to the repair shop then get it back and set it back up. After yesterday's near disasters with the truck etc., I may just leave it set. Let sleeping dogs lie....

Top of Pikes peak, Colorado

Had a family reunion about 3 1/2 years ago in Colorado Springs. Some of the family rode the train to the top of Pikes peak. Woah, it was late June and was spitting some snow up there.

Took 5th wheel in for repair today, went on a tour of the area and the truck quit right in the middle of heavy traffic on the Superstition freeway. We had roadside assistance insurance and they sent a wrecker (the traffic was horrid but I got the truck safetly to the shoulder). Almost $1000. later and a new fuel pump and a couple of injectors we were on our way. Was a really long day, got the 5th wheel picked up and re-set in our RV park. Tomorrow, I'm going to hunker down and not even leave the park.

Posting from an e-mail (test)

This is a pic taken off an e-mail from my son (it's his dog), The pic I posted yesterday didn't show up, this is kind of a test post to see if it shows up.... P.S. The dogs' name is Zoey

Superstitions

Doubt if I'll win any photo contests with this but it does show part of the Superstition mountains east of our RV park. They really are kind of pretty.

Saw Pinedale's web cam this morning. Yikes, snow and cold. Was 65 here today and a bit of wind.

Spent a couple of hours checking out RV parks for the Sutherlands, they may come down and spend some time, we've traveled with them off and on the last 4 seasons. Some of the RV parks are full but one about a block from us has some openings. They take dogs under 45 pounds, their dog, Gus is about 40-45 lbs.

Yesterday's picture

Re: yesterday's picture..... I posted it from my image-cave account and it obviously dosen't come up. Some internal high tech thing I suspect.

Debi is in the middle of cleaning the refrigerator, Only heard a couple of %$#@&%$# words...

90 miles to Cuba

Sorry about the tiny picture, this is Debi and I at the southern most tip of the U.S. On Key West Floriday January 06. Not sure if I posted this pic before. Did absolutely nothing today but watch football, hard to take a picture of a tv with a football game on. Tomorrow may find a fresh picture of something??

"Crazy horse"

Side view of the granite carving of Chief Crazy horse. Saw that on one of our RV travels in the summer of 05. This is south of Rapid City S.D. somewhere.

worked on some RV plumbing today. I plumb about as good as I fly F-16 fighter planes.... Not so good..

Sunset east of Phoenix

Climbed up on the 5th wheel last evening and took a couple of shots shooting towards the southwest. Had some cloud cover and the usual dust in the air. Made for a couple of pretty nice sunset pics. Clouds gone today, 73 degrees f.

Near Silver Lake Bridger Wildernes??

This was taken on one our Search and Rescue operations near Silver lake. I'm not sure if this is Silver lake or not. The south shoreline doesn't look right.... If anyone knows which lake this is please post it on remarks under the picture. ?????

The natives where whining about how cool it was here today. It topped out at about 68 degrees. I tried to explain snow and cold to one fellow and he just had that "deer in the headlights" look.

Wickenburg day trip

Deb-Today we took a road trip to Wickenburg. It was about a 220 mile round trip. Of course had to stop at a Walmart and Michaels along the way. Traffic was pretty light in the morning but a lot heavier in the afternoon. We finally got a phone call from a guy who is going to stop by in the morning and look a the damage on the back of our trailer. Hopefully, it will be an easy and cheap (ha-ha) fix. One can only hope. The weather here has been wonderful. Every once in awhile we look at each other and say " It is December isn't it?" So different from Pinedale.
