Sunday in the Park

Deb-Another beautiful day. The pics are of orange trees in the park and of our neighbors patio that they have fixed up outside of their motorhome. Several of the ladies were planting flowers today. After living in Wyoming, that is hard to accept. We can't even think about flowers until mid June. Went to Walmart and did some Christmas shopping for the grandkids. Now we just have to get it mailed.

Binocular camera

Didn't know they made such a thing till I saw a sale ad in Ace Hardware here locally. They cost $19.00 and are kind of neat. They are a regular 10x25 pair of binoculars (and the lenses are pretty good) + they hold 20 digital photos. You just aim at something a long way off and take a picture of it and download it to the computer. I've fooled around with it a little but haven't got it mastered. I'll post something one of these days if it works ok. I love gadgets....(Debi doesn't)

Horseshoe lake, Arizona style

As the Wyoming folks who follow this blog knows, Horseshoe lake is near Boulder Wyoming. This is the local horseshoe pitching area that was flooded by last night's rain. It was deeper than that this morning but the water sinks into the sandy soil rather quickly here. No fish in horseshoe lake here.

Movie clips

Had a couple of inquiries re: how to post a "clip". Most or all digital cameras have a setting where you can choose to run a moving "clip". Just choose that one and follow the instructions in the manual. Then download the clip just like you would a still picture and remember where you put it. Then when you begin to put in your blog for the day, just choose the icon next to where you choose still pictures (on the right of that icon). Then download the moving "clip" just like you would a still picture. Note....It's been my experience that you have to put the text in the box before you download the "clip". for some reason I couldn't add text after I downloaded the moving clip.

Also important, don't put long clips (keep them to 10-15 seconds) or it will take forever to load them up. Don't be impatient and "scrap" them. Go have a cup of coffee and a donut (hey, I'm a retired cop, I know donuts). Then.....it appears magically. My first clip was 30 seconds (the one of the fountain). On my verizon card it took about 15 minutes to load that sucker up.

Enjoy the movies....don't forget the popcorn.

Thanksgiving message

Not sure how this is going to turn out. video thing is kind of new.

Deb: Always something new to learn on the computer. We had kind of a lazy day today. Had some bad news from Tib last night. Her mother is not doing well. Our good thoughts and prayers go to her.

Tomorrow we have our dinner here at the park. Looking at the list of food, we should be eating well until next week. Hope all of you have a good holiday...

Green River Lakes area

Didn't take any photos today so will have to dig into the ole archives. This one dosen't need much explination. Walmart trip and donated a turkey to a group that feeds folks on Thanksgiving. Lots of people hurting financially down here.

Fountain hills, Az

Went on a little tour today and ended up in Fountain Hills Arizona. Nice little town a bit north and east of Phoenix. The town fountain erupts every hour and lasts about 15 minutes. A bit more commercialized than Old Faithful. Stopped by a casino and left them a few bucks. Never could figure out that blackjack dealer. 81 degrees here today, that's all supposed to change on Thanksgiving day. They are expecting some badly needed rain. We'll hunker down and watch football and eat Thanksgiving dinner here at the RV park. It's one of those carry in things. Lots of fun. I've never sent a digital "moving clip". I'll try to tag it on the end of this post.....May or may not work

Party for new motorhome

Deb- No it's not ours.... Darn. One of our neighbors traded their trailer in on this Holiday Rambler motorhome. The rest of the park got together and had a surprise party for them. There was probably 50 people or so and we were able to meet a few more people. It was nice and lots of good food. Tonite we have cake and ice cream for the people who have birthdays this month. As you can see it doesn't take much to get a party going.

Our job for today was washing the trailer. We did get it washed before it got hot but will wait on the wax job, football calls.. Go Denver (sorry Myndi).

The Alamo

Our first year of travel we went through San Antonio Texas and visited the Alamo and River walk. We arrived in the area, parked the car and wandered around. I asked a guy who looked like he was a native where the Alamo was.......he said......you're standing in it... Ohhh. I thought it would be much bigger. I must have thought there would be a little sign that said "The Alamo"..

Warm here today in the East valley of Phoenix. 81 degrees F. Got the air on. Tomorrow is wash the 5er day. That should be interesting. They value their water down here (thanks to the good folks in Wyoming that let them have some), They let me wash my trailer one time per season. As dry as it is down here, that's about all it takes.

Deb-No picture today. Sorry. We did not have the camera when we were in the Jack in the Box getting lunch and Pizza Hut made a delivery to the employees. I'm not sure if that is a good thing. Win and BeBee left early this morning to head back to Casper. Work was calling Win's name. We hope that they are able to come back ASAP. BeBee is going to love the flea market......Big Time-Bring money. Today was a slow day, grocery shopping and house cleaning.

My mom in Pinedale had a oops and broke a small bone in her foot. She is to wear a brace of some sort for a few weeks, but we will see how long that lasts.

Met up with the Farnsworth's

Met up with Win and Be Be Farnsworth here in Apache junction. Win was my boss back in the Pinedale Police department days. Went out exploring around Mesa and Florence Arizona. We're going to an opry tonight then off to explore again tomorrow. Win and BeBe has to go back to Casper Wyo. Friday. He's partially retired but works a lot for his business. He and his son hook up computer networks etc. Stuff that's way more high tech than I can do. They have this cool little yellow Hummer, they let me drive it and I didn't crash......yahoo..

Florida 06

This was in January 06 at a KOA campgroound near Wildwood Florida. We e-mailed this picture to our son Tim....caption reads: Orlando or bust.....there is a life after retirement and Tim:Send money....yessir, this RVing is allllllllright. Gee, I sure miss getting called out at 3:00 in the morning to stop a bar fight or to stand out in a blizzard at below zero temps to investigate a car crash.

Finnally-Santa Fe RV Park

Deb- Well, we are finally here and set up for a few months. From what we have seen of the park and the people it is great. The sites are very big, paved streets, nice club house, pool and very clean and well maintained. A big difference from the park we were in last week. I had to call insurance company this morning regarding the "little oops" from yesterday and get that ball rolling. We will have to find a place down here to do the minor work on the trailer soon. Had a good visit with Win and BeBee but they are going to have to go back to WY this Friday. Hopefully, they will be back later and be able to stay longer.

Parker to Phoenix

A couple of pics coming through Phoenix near Sky harbor airport. Not much traffic this day. Arrived in Apache junction shortly after noon and set up. Had a little "boo boo" this morning before we left the RV park in Parker Az. Scraped into the side of a pickup and did some light damage. Gave the guy our insurance stuff and moved on. Oh well, it's only plastic and steel, no one got hurt.

Nice here today. 83 degrees F.

Moving day

Good grief, I was young and had hair. This pic was taken shortly after I became Sheriff of Sublette county the first time back in about 1974. Funny how time alters things.......

Movin on today. Getting the 5er ready for travel, we'll launch about 0830 and hopefully (God willing) we'll get to Apache junction about 1:30. Debi will attempt to take some pictures out the window as I drive........

There's two times to drive through Phoenix, Sunday morning when the traffic is light or at rush hour so the traffic HAS to slow down and creep along (so you don't get in any high speed accidents) I'm still a country boy at heart and really focus when driving through cities pulling a 36' home behind........

Another lost hunter search

This was a shot out of Jim Mclellan's airplane while we were searching for a lost soul a few years back. This was up near Silver lake. Alas, the poor hunter was found.

Armadillo alert

Took a pic of this guy this past January in a wildlife park near Rockport Texas. Saw a bunch of "gators" wild pigs and other "crawly" stuff. We kind of miss South Texas and plan to go back there possibly next year. Don't like the humidity down there though.

Thursday, November 13, 2008

Deb-Our days here are winding down. We leave on Sunday. Last nite we had a fish fry at Dave and Chris's. It was very good and we met another couple from the park. The people here are very friendly and nice. The park itself is rather old and kind of run down. The sites are smaller than Hank and I like, but the price is right. Today we went to Parker Dam and on up to Havasu to the Walmart there. It was a good trip. The top pic is of a bush close to our trailer, I asked a guy what it was called, but I don't think the name of it is " a red flower" but ....... anyway the other pic is of the river toward Havasu.

Houston Space Center Jan "08"

Debi and I took a day trip over to Houston Space center in January. These pictures of rocket boosters don't do justice to the huge size of them. When NASA put men on the moon in early 70's, they built a sister ship and the pictures here depict the rockets etc. on those space vehicles.

One word comes to mind....."awesome"

Colorado River

The Colorado river looking dowstream. Our trailer is about 50 yeards from here, it's really a nice place. Super friendly folks here, they have a 8:00 a.m. coffee/political discussion/lying session/ and a few actual facts discussed. Winter snow-bird season is in full swing. The RV park we're in (Rio del sol, Big River Cal.) is nearly full and will be totally full soon. We'll be here till Sunday then move on to Apache junction Az.

Monday, November 10, 2008

Yesterday's trip from Hurricane Utah was uneventful except for some rain and wind. Was nice to have lunch with Pete and Sally in Needles Cal. We caught up on old times. Debi took a couple of pics from the window of the truck. Nice rainbow (kinda hard to see) and Sunday traffic in Las Vegas. Was pleasant driving through L.V on a sunday morning. Lots of lanes of traffic and few vehicles. The wind bounced us around a bit south of Las Vegas but all in all wasn't much of a white knuckle trip. Had dinner with our friends from Montana when we got to Big River California. We're right on the Colorado river and the locals say the fishing is pretty good. Internet Verizon card seems to work pretty good here, phone service is "suspect"........Party ON!!

Southbound

This is a pic I took north of Wolf Lake and south of Silver lake a couple of years ago. You can see part of the cirque of towers in the background. That has absolutely nothing to do with RV travels but the picture turned out ok.

We're southbound today. We'll go through Las Vegas then on to Needles Cal. The game plan is to stop in Needles and have lunch with Sally Hayward. At the end of the afternoon we should be in Big River California where we'll meet up with some RV friends that we met last winter in south Texas. Not sure how the internet and posting will work down in Big River. I'll make every attempt possible to post something daily. If not, wait a week and we'll be back in strong internet range in Apache junction Arizona. Sucks to be us huh?????

Saturday, November 8, 2008

Deb-Almost ready to leave in the morning. We are going to really miss the people and the park here. But warmer parks are calling us. We went computer shopping with Bob and Tib yesterday and they bought a new one. Kind of nice to look and spend someone elses money for a change. But the new computer did not get to come home with us.

Debi's afghan

I toil daily over this darned computer and Debi toils over her Afghan (sp). It's some kind of intricate needle work and takes up a lot of time. This RV lifestyle is super ok.

I'll be checking air pressure in the tires and making sure the lug nuts on the "Montana" are torqued properly. We launch in 2 days. I'm really careful about those things and weight. You would be surprised at the number of people that don't go through safety checklists and end up in trouble in heavy traffic. I stress a bit in driving through Las Vegas but that's why we travel through big cities on Sundays, less traffic and hopefully some of them have just left church and don't have their guns with them.

Older picture

This is some old oak tree near Rockport Texas. The experts says it's about 2000 years old and is the great grandfather of all the other trees around this area. I suppose if you like trees this would be interesting. Took this photo a couple of years back.

More Zion

Deb- My first time to do pics. Way too many steps to remember. The trip to Zions the other day was wonderful. Could not have asked for better weather. Took a nice little hike up one of the trails and watched climbers on the cliffs. Look like little ants on the rocks. Today we have done nothing, we are retired and we can do that... Tonight we are going out for supper with the Sutherlands and Schmidts.

Affordable prices (almost)

Boy diesel has taken a dive in Southern Utah. Before we launched we thought we'd be paying $5.00/gallon for diesel but this is a very pleasant surprise. First time for a long time that it's been cheaper than regular gas.

Finally getting this pesky election over today. Not sure about y'all but I've had enough. It was 14 years ago today that won that infamous Sheriff's race in 1994. The guy who ran against me didn't like the primary election results so ran a "write in" campaign in the general election. Needless to say he ended up 0-2.

Other Zion park pics

Nice pic with some of the Zion park fall colors etc.... and Bob, Tib Sutherland and Debi by the shop with the wind driven gizmo's...

Zion Park

One of those gizmo's that spin when the wind hits it. This particular gizmo had a price tag of $2050. Some of the other gizmo's were not stainless steel like the one pictured and they were a lot less. Sorry, I don't buy expensive stuff like this...

One of our fishing trips last winter. This fellow caught a pretty nice "Sheepshead", they're pretty good eating. Boat launched out of Rockport Texas

Dolphin

I think this pic is from Texas last winter. Corpus Christi marine park or something like that.
