Snagged this of the internet, good photo of Lander peak with Soda lake (north cottonwood) in the foreground. Got mother in law a load of wood today, lots of bog holes from the recent rains. Not sure how this picture is going to turn out, looks awfully big to post on a blog??????

Couple years back

Cottonwood lake in the Boulder area. Cool old cabin up there, not sure if trappers used it or ??? Waterline to the trailer is frozen this morning.....frozen water in August??? If this keeps up we may leave before Oct. 1st

Rain and lots of it

Coming down from Union pass this afternoon I saw this ahead. It just pounded that area with rain. Mudholes are full up that way. Didn't see a bear today...

Fremont peak shrouded in clouds

Raining like mad yesterday when I returned from Spring creek park. Kind of interesting clouds around Fremont peak.

Sure not the campers around that there were a couple weeks ago. Went into Willow creek guard station today and I was the only soul up there. Not even sure if anyone goes out of willow creek trailhead anymore since they locked the gates. Used to be a few cars around the parking area. I haven't seen a car up there all summer, of course, a "car" couldn't make it with that new road east of New Fork lake. It's "wayyyyy" steep in places..

Interesting geological formation

Some kind of geological formation, kinda looks like upthrust mountain building or something like that. I'd say mohovoric discontinuity line but then no-one would know what that means (including me) This is up in Snyder basin about 25 miles straight west of Big Piney Wyoming. Down to 10 working days left this season. Only problem with that is that there's lots of other work to be done like hauling wood and "honey-do's"....I need a day of fishing.....bad!!!

South of Las Vegas

Always intrigued by that mini-mountain south of Las Vegas. Won't be all that long and we'll see the southbound view. Can't believe it's that time of the year again to begin thinking about "hookin" up and heading out.

North Cottonwood Creek

Only 3 more weeks to enjoy the Sublette county great outdoors (for this year), If I keep my nose clean and my powder dry maybe the Sheriff's office will hire me back next year to do summer forest patrol. This is in the north cottonwood creek drainange 30 miles southwest of Pinedale Wy. I think that mountain is the south face of Lander peak. I'd like to climb that sucker one of these days...

Wolf lake (again)

You'd think that I don't go to any other wilderness lakes than Wolf lake. It's just one of those places in the world that is super quiet and very calming to the jangled nerves of life. My first trip into wolf lake was 1972 when we drove the horses from Boulder lake ranch (where I was a wrangler) to wolf lake. That was a long day driving those horses past Divide lake and other lakes. Then we went down that horrid road back to civilization in an old Dodge "suburban" like vehicle. That was the roughest ride I ever took in a vehicle. Took a lot of beer to negotiate that road then. Now they've dynamited some of the bad rocks and bladed the road some (due to forest fires in the area over the years).

Pals for life

Had a little family and friends (Bob and Gina) "get together" last evening. My sister Rita and Gina are almost exactly the same age (for my safety I won't say how old), was sure a great visit with all of them. Niece Leslie from Shreveport here visiting and of course My son and daughter in law were here. Except for the 90 mile per hour hurricane winds, all went well!!

Frost

Elkhart park yesterday morning about 8:00 a.m. Yep, that's frost on the ground. Been a funny weather year here in the western Wyoming area. Elkhart park is about 9,000 ft elevation. It's sure killed the biting flies off too.

Glover Peak

Growing up as a kid on the Jorgensen ranch, the upper place was called the "Glover" place. I would guess that Glover peak was named after someone associated with the ranch?? That's Pine creek canyon leading up to the peak..

Picture taken the next morning

The previous pic with the blurred object was taken July 16th late morning. This picture was the next picture taken the next morning (July 17) I don't see a blur in this one. Hmmmm, perhaps we should call in CSI or Interpol or????

Dutch Joe

Dutch Joe Guard Station about 50 miles southeast of Pinedale. On my previous post I stated that I wasn't sure where it was? The ole brain seized up there for a moment...

Oh how wierd

Was looking at this picture and noticed a blurry red object in the lower left hand quarter of the picture. Maybe I photographed a UFO and didn't know it. I have no idea what it could be. Not even sure where the picture was taken for sure, Sublette County somewhere. Or maybe someone threw something at me or????

Big Sheep mountain??

Never was sure if this is Big Sheep mountain or not. It's south of the lower Green River lake. I've flown over it on a helicopter low and slow, it's really cool looking from up there.

Down to 16 work days left. I absolutely love September with the aspens changing. Looking forward to it..

Rainbow over Mt. Aerie

These monsoon rains have made some pretty rainbows recently in the Pinedale area. Caught this one a couple mornings ago from our yard. I know morning rainbows are probably just as common as evening rainbows but seems like there's more in the evenings?

Stopped by the Fair today for a few minutes, they had a good turnout. There are lots of Politics in the air. When people ask me If I'm running I tell em, "yeah", I'm running for the county line.....as fast as I can..

In Memorium

Sadly I learned tonight that my dear friend of countless years died in Tucson Arizona a couple of days ago. His real name is Philip Michael Mahar but I only knew him as Mike. We both got out of the army about the same time and became good friends. Mike's been a quadraplegic since 1973 when he was in a horrific car wreck that killed his wife of just a few months, I was a poll bearer at her funeral. Mike had a little bit of use of one of his arms and could actually fly fish, he lived for fly fishing and coming back to Wyoming in the summertime. I know that some of the bloggers knew Mike and I would ask that you take a minute and say a prayer for his family. His brother Sean has helped take care of Mike since that terrible accident many years ago. Sean called me this evening and told me. No service is planned nor did he want any flowers or anything. Of all the pictures I've taken over the years I never took his picture. I did google his name and got the name of the mortuary in Tucson that is handling his passing. There's a register that you can sign online.

Fishin machine

The motor came a couple days ago, got it (the boat) inflated and put together, then deflated it and stuffed it in the little bag it came in. If the weather cooperates today I'll launch it for it's maiden voyage... More pictures to follow

Wednesday, August 4, 2010

Note from picture a couple days ago The mountain dead center is Mt. Geicke. Mt. Hooker is just to the left of it. Raid peak is the next one to the left and Mt. Bonneville (the really jagged one) is to the left of Raid. Silver lake is at the foot of Mt. Geicke (and a little bit south).

More Sublette County Stuff

This sign is posted in the Wyoming range (40 miles west of Pinedale), South Cottonwood creek area. Amazing how that technology advanced at that time. I used to chat with a fellow in Laramie that was once a "tie hack". Those guys were tough as nails

Mt Hooker

Early morning coming down hill eastbound towards Fremont lake area. Mount hooker actually looks like a hook. Picture is kind of washed out and smoky from the local fires
