Ready to fish

Summer's a comin, had to make a stop by Sportsman's warehouse (as an aside, they're going into bankruptcy). Priced a downrigger for my boat for this summer. Cheap ones are $119. Expensive ones are well... not affordable... I'll check the internet, might get one there on ebay or ??? cheaper.

Cool for Hurricane Utah this morning. 35 degrees. That's cold for a snowbird

Grandkid

Met up with our granddaughter for lunch. Her dad was taking her back to Pinedale after having her for spring break. They're headed into the teeth of a storm. Hopefully all will go well. The lady in the middle is Brad Balue's mom. Deanna is a first grader in Pinedale.

Wind is just starting up. Got the lawn chairs stacked... They don't call this place Hurricane for nothing!!

Home sweet home

Hard to believe we've been here 2 weeks tomorrow. How time flies when you're having so dang much fun.

Pigged out at the seafood buffet last evening in Mesquite Nv. Will be glad to start hauling wood for the family when I get home to work some of it off.

Beautiful day here today but they're calling for wind gusts up to 55 miles per hour tomorrow. Glue the toupee on again.

Backside of Fremont peak and other peaks

Found and old photo of one of the many search and rescue ops I was on in the mid "90's". This is kind of a "different view" of the back of Fremont peak (for the non Pinedale followers) it's located about 30 miles east and slightly north of the town of Pinedale. Fremont peak is the one near the center of the photo with the glacier on the east side of it( with kind of a "rounded" top). I think we were in a helicopter this day and the ride was a bit bumpy in those canyons. Speaking of bumpy, wow the wind ripped again here all night. Supposed to be a bit calmer today though. Off to Mesquite this afternoon for the Friday night sea-food buffet. First a stop at Walmart for some Alka Seltzer though.

Gunsight pass west of Pinedale Wyoming

Found an old photo from my snowmachining days of Gunsight pass in the mountain range west of Pinedale. Kind of a cool ring around the pass from the sun. Not sure if we were up there for a search or just a pleasure day?? Anyhow, I kind miss riding a snow-machine but I don't miss doing it at 3: 00 in the morning trying to find some lost soul.

Wow, talk about wind here today, blew some of the neighbor's directv dishes over etc. One of those days you stay in and "hunker down"

Explain further

On the pics posted below the first pic posted is an old cistern (sistern?) built into the side of a rocky hill in the "ruins" area. Hard to see it on the photo. I should have caught that before I posted.

Remnants of old stage stop

Took a ride around St. George Utah to Beaver Dam Arizona (the back roads) then on to Mesquite Nevada. Went by an old stage stop with some accompanying old ruins. And of course we had to stop at the Eureka Casino and have lunch (and donate to the building fund). Went with the Sutherlands.

Last summer in Wyoming

Not sure if I ever posted this pic from Cottonwood lake (last summer). This is an old cabin that's falling down on the west shore of the lake.

Cooler here today, wind...rain...etc. It's springtime. Called my brother in South Dakota this morning, says he's been in the house since yesterday afternoon because of a horrible blizzard. So bad he can't get out to check the livestock. He says that those who are calving will surely lose calves because the storm is so huge. He said that I-90 was closed from Sheridan Wyoming to many miles east of his ranch (he's in Wall, South Dakota). This is their second or third bad blizzard this winter.

Correction It's STS 119 not 199

Damned Dyslexia. That's STS 119 not 199... You would think I would better know..

STS 199 launch as seen from West coast of Florida

Saw this interesting photo of the launch of Space shuttle STS 199 the other day. Not as spectacular as up close but is kind of a pretty picture

Squaretop mountain

Same search operation as the picture I posted yesterday. That's squaretop mountain kinda to the left (duhh it has a square top).. Not sure what the pointed mountain in the middle is called (there's a name for it but it escapes me).

Cloudy and cool here in Utah's Dixie today. Nice break from the constant sunshine (boooo hissss)

Late 1990's

Had an interesting search for some human remains in the trail creek park area (about 50 miles northeast of Pinedale) back in the late 1990's. One August morning as we headed into the search area horseback I caught this rare photo of Squaretop mountain with fog below it. Sorry about the picture being a bit "cockeyed" as I scanned it and tried to straighten it out (obviously without much success)

Windy as heck here today, rocking the trailer a bit.

Trees getting greener

Yep, trees are greening up, if that don't give you spring fever I don't know what would. Nice day here today, wind blew pretty bad but nothing broke. Supposed to get some much needed rain tomorrow.

Pine mountain

Pretty good view of Pine mountain from our RV park except that the Walgreen drug store partially blocks the view. Supposed to be windy and cooler the next couple of days.

McGruff

Our neighbor's cat (McGruff). He's quite the cat, weighs about 20 pounds....nice little critter. He moved just as I clicked the shutter so cut his feet off.

Warm here today (not hot). Had lunch with Henry and Linda Schmidt. They're doing well.

The new--old neighborhood

Back at Willowwind RV park in Hurricane Utah, replaced a fuse in the motor that lifts the front of the 5th wheel so won't have to worry about that anymore.

We're just one space over from where we were in October when we came down. Had a St. Patties day dinner here at the park last evening, the owners provided the cabbage and corned beef....was really good. Got here and the weather heated up. Arizona will begin to see frequent 90's from now on. This is better.

Mojave indian site

Went with Sally Hayward and the Rock club out of Needles Cal. on a guided tour of some ancient Mojave indian sites. This BLM sign depicts an area where the indians had a ritual wherein they would run and hold their breath's (some kind of stamina thing). Was very interesting. Another angle of the old car we saw out on the desert.

Off to help the boss do laundry this morning then off to Walmart to get some "vittles".

Has seen better days

When we were out with Sally, Corrine et al looking for Corrine's GSP bag we stumbled on this old car from yesteryear. Rough ole country out there in Eastern California.

Washed the truck today and tried to troubleshoot the non-functioning front jack motor on the 5th wheel. No luck, better dig the manuals out again.

Cool shirt Sally

Sure enjoyed the day with Sally and friends. Good to see Corinne (sp) et al.

Uneventful trip from Laughlin Nv to Hurricane Utah, except that the damned power motor that runs the front jacks died on me and I had to crank the front of the 5er up by hand. Hopefully it will be a fuse or reset button. Good to see the Sutherlands again. Tiny bit cooler here but was nearly 70, can't complain about that.

Laughlin Nevada today

Going out on an excursion (sp) with Sally Hayward today, then off to Hurricane Utah tomorrow to meet up with the Sutherlands again. Been almost 4 months since we say Bob and Tib. We're in a KOA campground and the sites are a lot smaller than in Apache junction but we're only here for a short stay so no big deal.

While it lasts

Fueled up in Quartzsite yesterday, we did see on station in central Phoenix at $1.81 per gallon. Be assured that our friends in Washington DC and the speculators won't let us benefit from this forever.

East of Quartzsite

Uneventful trip to Laughlin area, this is a pic just east of Quartzsite Az. Some rugged mountains up in that area. Verizon card doesn't work very good here, trying to figure out the wireless internet.

Ready to roll

Headed out in the morning. We'll be at the mercy of Phoenix traffic for the first couple of hours then should be a clean shot. Looks to be about 230 miles to our destination (Avi RV park) just south of Laughlin Nv. Said goodbyes to a lot of good friends, we'll see most of them again next fall.. Warm today, high 70's...

Parting shots of the superstitions

There are so many angles to photograph the superstitions. These are from the parking lot of the public library in Apache junction Az.

Deb is re-arranging cupboards for travel. These things are like airplanes opening up the overhead doors after a trip. Never quite know what may end up in your lap.

Supposed to be 70's all through the week. Probably will be a bit cooler up in Hurricane Utah.

The neighborhood

Soon to be our former home. Hard to believe we've been here since November 16th, almost 4 months. This is the longest we've ever stayed in one RV park. It's so nice here we've paid our deposit for next year. Looking forward to lunch with Dave and Chris Danner of kalispell Montana. We'll meet them Thursday in Parker Az on the way to Laughlin Nevada area. We'll intentionally travel through Las Vegas early Sunday morning, traffic should be light. A bit cloudy today, weatherman says it may sprinkle a few drops of rain in the east valley this afternoon. Off to do some more stuff to get the rig ready for travel.

Getting ready to roll this week

aired the tires up today and lubed the slide rails for the "slideouts". Seems like tires lose about 1 pound of air or so each month that you're parked. Sure don't want to drive in this traffic down here on underinflated tires. I installed some air bags on the rear axel last summer, I air them up and the trailer levels out and holds the road better . We're among to first ones to leave the park northbound for the season. As bad as the economy is down here in Arizona, not sure if it will be here next fall when we get back.
